Our baby gifts at the Toyko Gift Fair

Whilst we were in the Uk exhibiting our baby gifts in Birmingham last week, our japanese distributor, Sedna Inc, was showing our stuff at the Tokyo Gift Fair.

Many thanks to Hiro from Tokyo Austrade for sending me the images. Click here to see them all

Babycupcakes in the media

He’s an avid blog reader, - so a special “hello” to Hiro, my Austrade business deveopment manager in Tokyo. I promised him fame and glory when the photo was taken… and I have delivered.

Japanese baby transport, part 2

These babies were on an excursion from Japanese daycare to the park. Who needs a bus when you have a glorified shopping trolley with a hook for your hula hoops?

Women going global…

Last week I, along with eight other Australian business women, had the unique opportunity of speaking candidly with a group of female japanese entrepreneurs in Tokyo. We spoke of work/life balance, courage, the reasons behind our starting our own businesses, our hardest moments, our greatest successes, and more…

The group comprised of Alicia Parker(Parker’s Organic Juices Pty Ltd)Moreen Liao(Trueway International Pty Ltd)Samea Maakrun(Sasy n Savy Pty Ltd)Kathy Bellingham(Material Grace t/a Babycupcakes)Loy Chee Tan(NSW Adult Migrant English Service)Debra Bayne(Debraneys)Joanne Papanikitas(XEstate Wine Distributors)Renna Danelutti(Mum To Be Pty Ltd)Kathy Rod(Xrain Foods CRC)Each of us had a unique story to tell.

My japanese party trick

I had the pleasure of travelling in Japan last week with a diverse group of Australian women who export… We ate together on most nights, giving me an opportunity to show off my newly acquired oshibori origami skills. Oshibori are wet towels given out before a meal, they were in plentiful supply and became the source of much amusement over the week. The oshibori bird was my most successful project, and by popular request, I am posting the instructions. For me, it was nice to fold something other than baby clothing, and for pleasure rather than profit!

P.S. Click on the bird for the instructions…
