My sister is having a baby shower. I am in charge & not sure how I feel. As the  owner of a baby gift business… I need to put in the hard yards, for credibilty, as well as love.  I like to think I know my stuff, and have been researching some extraordinary baby shower games… I feel a bit out of touch as an elder sister who never had a baby shower (with three kids) As a proud new aunt… and it being my sister’s first child, I am there.

My “babies” are not so old. 11, 9 and 8 years at the moment. Funny how pregnancy has changed so much in the past 11-8 years. My sister currently has no caffeine, processed foods nor soft cheeses.  I have not shared my “a can of diet coke on the way to work will solve all morning sickness” theory. I dare not.

Prams apparently now cost thousands… she wants advice about double deckers for future siblings… As for baby monitors? The stress they caused me when there was silence… let’s not go there.

Baby names? Don’t even mention them. Baby name thieves are out there. According to my sister, thieves in balaclavas stumble upon the name you have chosen, and proceed to name all and sundry. She won’t even give me the prospective initials, let alone how many letters!

I feel like my Dad when I say in the olden days… Life, and prams, along with pregnancy diets, and baby names - they were all such simple issues.  I hold my head high.  There is nothing wrong with feeling like your Dad…
